What is 3D prototyping?

Virtual thinking. Visible results. 3D prototyping combines creativity, technology, and efficiency in an immersive development environment. Your team and ours merge to achieve completely new results!

3D prototyping refers to the digital creation of prototypes—models that realistically simulate, visualize, and test a product before it is actually manufactured. It is not just about presentation, but about interactive experiences that combine design, function, and emotion.

At Logan Five, we use state-of-the-art 3D software, rendering technologies, and extended reality solutions to bring ideas to life. This gives companies a precise basis for decision-making even before physical samples are produced. This saves time, resources, and costs—while also enabling a compelling presentation: in the showroom, in sales, or directly on a smartphone via WebAR.

Whether in mechanical engineering, architecture, or product design, 3D prototyping accelerates innovation processes and makes complex relationships visible. With AR, VR, MR, and WebAR, we create results that you and your customers could not previously see in this way. This is the key to a new way of thinking about, planning, and presenting products.

Case Study

Initial situation

Bizerba, a leading global provider of weighing, cutting, and labeling technology, was looking for a way to bring its complex machine solutions to life digitally and interactively. The aim was to present the product range clearly—both for sales and for customers at international trade fairs and in the field.

challenge

The challenge was to present highly complex technical systems intuitively without having to transport large machines to trade fairs. At the same time, the application had to be modular in design so that new products could be quickly integrated and updated. A particular requirement was to link product data, 3D visualization, and interactive operation within a powerful app.

Solution

Logan Five developed a customized app that virtually replicates Bizerba’s product world.
The application is based on state-of-the-art 3D and XR technologies, combined with a clear user interface and logical navigation. All machines have been converted into interactive 3D models and linked to technical data, animations, and functional descriptions.
The app runs cross-platform on tablets, smartphones, and touchscreens and can be used offline at trade shows or online in sales.

result

The Bizerba app has significantly modernized the sales process. Instead of static brochures, interactive product presentations can now be carried out—with impressive visual quality and high technical depth. This saves transport costs, reduces trade fair expenses, and at the same time creates a new brand experience that underlines competence and innovative strength.

Conclusion

With the Bizerba app, Logan Five has succeeded in making complex technology an emotional experience.
The project is a prime example of how 3D visualization, app development, and communication strategy intertwine to lead brands into the future of digital product presentation.

Micro FAQ

We get asked a lot of questions. That’s why we’ve picked out some interesting questions for you:

Basically in all areas. We even go so far as to create avatars for promoting images. You will find Logan Five products in the sensor, automotive, mechanical engineering, glass, large machinery, and machine building industries. Every product can be represented.

All your products can also be easily displayed in WebAR. Logan Five stages and visualizes your technical worlds. You can find examples here.

You have an idea. We visualize it and bring the ideas to life in WebAR, augmented reality, or even in the form of solid materials. We do this together with our project partners.

Background information: Rapid prototyping refers to the rapid production of prototypes based on digital 3D data. Modern processes such as 3D printing, stereolithography, and laser sintering are used to create models that allow product ideas to be tested and optimized in a very short time. The advantage lies in the enormous time and cost savings, as changes can be made directly to the digital design. Rapid prototyping makes it possible to identify errors early on and test developments in a realistic manner. In combination with 3D prototyping from Logan Five, the process is expanded to include virtual, interactive experiences – visible, understandable, and impressive.

  • Metals for rapid prototyping
  • Plastics for rapid prototyping
  • WebAR for rapid prototyping
  • Visualization in prototyping
  • Printing of parts at Logan Five’s cooperation partner

In principle, this is possible in all 3D programs. We take raw or realistic data and rework it in Blender before visualizing it in other technologies. This extends to printing in solid materials. In principle, all parts can be represented in all colors and materials.

A prototype is a preliminary, often simplified model of a product that is used to test and evaluate its function, design, or user experience before the final version is created. In practice, this means that a prototype is a tangible or digital design that shows how a product should look, feel, and function. It is used for error detection, optimization, and communication between developers, designers, decision-makers, and customers. Prototypes come in various forms—from simple concept models to functional test versions to fully interactive 3D or WebAR visualizations, such as those developed by Logan Five to bring ideas to life at an early stage.

Prototype printing process

  • Fused Deposition Modeling (FDM)
    – Layer-by-layer melting and application of plastic filaments (e.g., PLA, ABS).
    – Cost-effective, ideal for functional prototypes and simple models.

  • Stereolithography (SLA)
    – Curing of liquid resin using a UV laser.
    – High precision, smooth surfaces, perfect for design models.

  • Selective laser sintering (SLS)
    – Fusion of plastic or metal powder using a laser.
    – Robust, resilient, ideal for functional components.

  • Digital Light Processing (DLP)
    – Similar to SLA, but with light projection instead of lasers.
    – Very detailed and fast.

  • PolyJet / MultiJet Printing (MJP)
    – Multi-component process using liquid photopolymers.
    – Combines different materials and colors in a single print.

  • Selective Laser Melting (SLM)
    – Laser completely melts metal powder.
    – Suitable for precise metal prototypes or final components.

  • Binder jetting
    – Powder material is bonded with liquid binder.
    – Ideal for color models, display objects, or casting molds.

  • In most cases, companies manufacture all parts themselves using printing technology.
  • If you wish, we can have the parts manufactured by our partners, naturally in accordance with the quotation.
  • Manufacturing should be inexpensive.
